JBL was a GREAT Heel.
I think that enhanced his heelness. This dude during his run made you hate him. He routinely cheated and squeaked out wins despite having nominal talent.Too bad he was garbage in the ring.
The problem is that, same as every heel they've booked since 2003 really, he was booked to look like a fluke who was nothing close to legit. 100% of his title matches from when he won it to no way out 2005 had a fukkery finish. Hard to take anyone serious when they have 0 signature performances or wins to legitimize them.I think that enhanced his heelness. This dude during his run made you hate him. Old school heel tactics

Cheating is one thing. Every single title match ending with someone interfering to save you because they have beef with your opponent is another. Makes you an afterthought and it doesn't prove that you belong in that tier.I think he was the last of the true heels. He did a interview where he said he never did anything to elicit a positive reaction from the crowd.
To me a lot of heels want to be heel and be cool like a baby face at the same time. They want to be to cool heel.
JBL went straight for negative fukkery 100% of the time . If by accident he did get a good reaction he would immediately follow up with a heel response to elicit boos.
I have no problem with a heel winning by the skin of his teeth and cheating to do so. Jbl winning when he was not supposed to and wearing that fukking cowboy hat legit pissed people off. Which I think means he did a great job .
I definitely understand where you are coming from. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed his heel run. But yeah I can see what you are saying too.Cheating is one thing. What are you talking about? Thats heel booking 101. Make the fans at home say "JBL sucks he cant win his own fights" "He wouldnt stand a chance if this was fair"Cheating is one thing. Let him cheat to win, but when it's some random run in that doesn't have anything to do with him, or like summer slam where taker just gets fed up and clobbers him with the belt it makes him look like an afterthought. Same reason that his title defense against Brock made Rollins look bad. Match ended with a run in that had nothing to do with him and makes him an afterthought. The fact that he never won the title again makes him look even more like a fluke. He needed some kind of signature win where even if he cheated, it was his effort that won. It at least shows he's legit. If the guy holding the title is booked like a fluke or a joke, how valuable is the title? If there has to be interference finishes, let it be HHH evolution type interference where his boys are the ones that help him and he's the main focus at the end of the match. What are you talking about?
