Funcom officially announced its announced its open world survival MMO, Dune Awakening at Gamescom's Opening Night Live. A short teaser gave us Dune's famous "Fear is the mind-killer" quote, while hinting at giant spice-harvesting vehicles, even more giant sand worms, and sand worm riding. Coming for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and "is set on Arrakis and takes inspiration from both Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s Academy Award-winning film while exploring exciting new possibilities in the franchise." The company has been actively hiring for the project, saying "We invite you to come shape a world made boundless by its deep lore and enduring themes. Join us as we build a Dune for all fans to realize the dream of traversing its ever-shifting landscape, sand under fingernails and spice in the air." Funcom is best known for its other survival game, Conan Exiles. Our review said it was "often slow and arduous, but even after 70 hours, the idea of returning to the Exiled Lands still holds some allure."
