"Released in 1994, Dumb and Dumber still stands tall as one of the most popular comedy movies of its era. Three decades later, the Farrelly Bros. are teasing that a third installment will happen in another 10 years.
Recently, the Farrelly Bros. took part in an interview with Variety to promote their next film, Dear Santa. They were asked if there were any movies from their catalog they'd be interested in revisiting, and the 30-year-old comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels was instantly mentioned. Peter Farrelly, who directed the film after co-writing the script with brother Bobby Farrelly and Bennett Yellin, confirmed there are loose plans to make another Dumb and Dumber film.
As Peter said, "I still take notes whenever I hear something that I think would be a good Dumb and Dumber joke. I keep a list because I could easily see us doing another Dumb and Dumber someday."

"We did [Dumb and Dumber To] on the 20th anniversary, and right now we’re at the 30th anniversary. So in 10 years…" Bobby added. "Those guys [Carrey and Daniels] are so much fun to work with. If we’re all still kicking around, I’d love to do that. Any of those movies that we’ve done … Look, There’s Something About Mary. We love those characters so much that if we ever thought of a way to bring them back and retell a story using those characters again, we’d be up for it because we love the characters. If we weren’t passionately in love with those characters, we wouldn’t want to do a sequel."
Dumb and Dumber starred Carrey and Daniels in their respective roles as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunn, two close friends in Rhode Island who are, to say the least, not very bright. The pair embark on a road trip to return a briefcase they mistakenly believe was left behind by accident, unaware that they've intercepted ransom money. The comedy was a huge hit at the box office, spawning an animated series along with a 2003 prequel film, the latter of which featured an unforgettable performance from comedy legend Bob Saget. However, though neither the animated series nor the prequel film featured Carrey and Daniels reprising their roles.
Dumb and Dumber Had a Direct Sequel in 2014
There was, however, a direct sequel to Dumb and Dumber. In 2014, Peter and Bobby Farrelly's Dumb and Dumber To was released with Carrey and Daniels back in the roles of Lloyd and Harry. This time, the two are again going on a cross-country road trip, but it's to find Harry's daughter. Though not quite as revered as the original film, Dumb and Dumber To was a box office success, earning nearly $170 million against a budget of $50 million.
The Farrelly Bros.' Dear Santa is now playing in theaters."
