Dream on McGee "I see him as another star... that guy should dominate the league"

Denver Nuggets 7-foot center JaVale McGee has already impressed Hall-of-Fame center Hakeem Olajuwon in the short time they have worked out together in Houston.

Olajuwon, who knows a thing or two about what it takes to be an NBA star, believes the sky is the limit for McGee, who finished second in the NBA last season in blocked shots, averaging 2.16 per game.

No question, I see him as another star," Olajuwon said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "That guy should dominate the league.

"He has tremendous talent. I give him all these moves and he can finish and he's already skilled. So now just show him how to use that skill to (get) to the next level."

McGee is working with Olajuwon along with New York Knicks star Amare Stoudemire.

Olajuwon began working with the greats of the game in 2009 when Kobe Bryant decided to enhance his post-up moves.

Dwight Howard was next in 2010 and again last season, along with LeBron James.

Olajuwon enjoys working with the superstars, but he also likes to work with the up-and-coming young players like McGee.

"McGee is incredible because he's not just a seven-footer, he's skilled," Olajuwon said. "He's very agile.

"Most of my moves are designed from a shot-blockers perspective. I am a shot blocker. What are the moves most difficult for a shot blocker? I'm coming from inside out. This move is very difficult for a shot blocker to block."

Olajuwon believes what he has to offer fits McGee's game.

"The moves that we work on are not for a stiff big guy," Olajuwon said. "With him he's agile. The move flows. So I'm excited to see what he's going to do this year."

So is McGee.

"There are some things that we already knew, but he has different tweaks to it," McGee said. "Then he has some stuff that you really didn't think about that he just throws out there that is amazing to see it."

McGee is heading into his fifth season in the NBA.

He was taken in the first round by the Washington Wizards in 2008 and was traded to the Nuggets in March.

Last season McGee averaged 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds while splitting time between Washington and Denver.

"I'm just willing to work hard, willing to get better," McGee said. "I'm not satisfied with anything. I'm just trying to become a better player."

Javale deserves the benefit out the doubt here, since he was basically playing glorified pickup ball his first 3 years in Washington.

How JaVale McGee came and asked him for a big man coach, and Grunfeld said he could have one if he paid for it himself.
