Drake just got outplayed. I agree, entering the battle was the right thing to do 100%, he just didnt handle it correctly in hindsight. I guess he underestimated how long Kendrick has been waiting for this and how prepared he was. Kendrick had a whole gameplan mapped out, and contingencies in case that plan failed apparently. Drake basically approached this like it was Meek thinking he would bar him up real quick, drop a catchy song at the end and its game over. Nope.

The part that fukked him was Kendrick drowning out Family Matters. That was actually a fire song, and against anybody else that would have been the end. But Kendrick saw that coming and was ready :manny:

Meet the Grahams was the perfect song to overshadow Family Matters. It wasn't a better song, but it had crazy shock value. Secret kids, sex rings, Drake getting raided, etc. Clearly it was all foolishness but it served its purpose and blocked Drake's "Nuke".

In a few years there will probably be some Harvard class that studies how Kendrick handled this battle. It was flawless.
Smh

He spammed diss records just like Joe Budden. The only that matters is that he caught one with NLU

There's no way Drake could have anticipated he'd lose a rap battle to a song that would become the biggest track of the year (and be performed at the Super Bowl). Entering the battle wasn't the mistake. Not taking Kendrick seriously as a threat was the mistake. We've had months of people crying about Drake being the victim since then but let's not forget: for a couple weeks this nikka was clowning Kendrick, daring him to drop a song, alluding to having a career ending nuclear bomb in his pocket, etc. Only to get gunned up and clapped quick.

Let's flip this around. If Drake had won the battle he would have put a major dent on Kendrick's record. A decade of antagonizing the singing nikka only to get bodied by him? On the tail end of him releasing his worst album (Mr Morale)? That would be a career altering L for Kendrick and crown Drake as the guy. It was worth the risk to enter the battle. He simply didn't consider the stakes or take his opponent seriously. Literally the same mistake he made against Pusha, btw.
