What would you recommend for someone who doesn't know about either.

2 Different Games

Baldurs Gate 3 is the culmination of 40 years of CRPG History and is very well polished. The story and adventures are well curated. You can carve out your own path and figure crazy solutions to various problems.

Dragon's Dogma is not quite as polished But the action is fantastic and the generated fukkery is 2nd to none. Nothing beats climbing a giant dragon and trying to stab it to death.

My advice get both.

These games have nothing in common at all gameplay wise, but BG3 is overall the better experience. Dragon's Dogma 2 seems it's gonna follow the same path as it's predecessor in that it ain't gonna get 100% lit until it's inevitable DLC comes out. Vanilla Dragon's Dogma was just ok, Dark Arisen is what got the game it's cult following.

BG3 is a story-driven d20 RPG experience. Lots of questing, dialogue, characterization, etc. It is an ABSURDLY polished game where you can miss entire sections of it unless you listen very carefully.

DD2 is an action-driven rpg. If you want to be fighting more than talking then this is your jam. But it's also BRUTAL when it comes to the travel and difficulty. You'll spend most of the game running from place to place and trying not to die.
