Does anybody watch this show? :lupe: I love it! The new season is out, I haven't watched the first episode but I'm about to! LOL I didn't think there would be a thread but I wanted to start one.

I hope I'm not alone in my love for DA on here... :sadbron:

A couple of things interesting about it is the history, and the way the dialogue can be really cutting and meaningful without being obvious.....using a lot of subtext and a little sarcasm etc etc. A lot of people will see it as "slow", but if you just let yourself get sucked in as a fly on the wall and really pay attention to it it is really good.

They did a great job of using that house and locations and making it seem like you were there in that time.

I know! I think it's such a clever show. Albeit I know the themes have been visited many times before in other shows like it, I think it is executed nicely. You become so immersed in the characters, and I especially like how they have been highlighting how the times have changed the way the classes act. I know people have said it is rather slow, but I really enjoy it and it is one of my favorite television shows.

I've watched all but the most recent season and love it. Besides being a sucker for period pieces, as a fan of Jane Austen, dikkens, Alcott, etc, I see similarities to some of their works. But since DA is set during a later date, you get to see the political and cultural changes that were taking place around that time (I'm aware of the historical inaccuracies). Then there's the whole upstairs downstairs(which is a show you'll like if you like Downton Abbey) dynamic that pretty much fuels the whole show and reminds me of a great movie called Gosford Park. The acting and writing is high quality(Maggie Smith alone is better than a lot of show's casts) and if you care about costume and set design they kill it in that department too. Can it be melodramatic, definitely, but it's about aristocrats so that's pretty much to be expected. I get why some would find it boring but it's one of my favorite shows on TV
