Austin wouldn't have made a long-term ECW impact based on when he joined and left to go to WWF, but several months later in mid-96, fresh off of shooting on a WCW PPV, Brian Pillman appeared in ECW. Could "Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman, had he not stayed in gimmick when talking with New Jack and before destroying his ankle in the hummer accident, have given ECW the juice to go national before they eventually did with Barely Legal in '97? Bischoff has said the plan was for Pillman to go to ECW then come back to WCW but realistically, we all know Pillman was not going to eclipse the nWo freight train that ran the business for a year and a half. Pillman had the anti-authority gimmick down pat, and probably would have feuded quickly with the top of the ECW card at that time (prime Raven, Sandman, and Shane Douglas).

Simple answer is NO. Pillman was always going to be a short term talent for ECW with the gimmick he was running with at that time. He would of pissed off the talent even more by working them even more like great stay in character actors do and Heyman would of allowed it to happen.
