I'm gonna use this old movie I just saw as an example. While You Were Sleeping.
These sorts of things happen all the time is romantic comedies.
Here's an example of an anime I'm watching now You Lie In April
That chick is obviously sick and potentially dying. He's falling in love with her and from the very last line you can gather that she knows it now. She won't let him know she's sick. He has no idea. That scene was the perfect there's something you should know about me moment yet she mumbles it under her breath.
I get that writers want to construct dramatic scenes but is it really necessary to have characters behave so irrational to create them?
The president from ID4 dude knew she was full of shyt and wasn't engaged to his brother. There were multiple points she could have told him yeah you were right and explained everything and I'm willing to bet he would have understood. Instead she hides it from him just so the plot could unfold the way it did.
