Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale file for divorce after 13 years of marriage
Gwen Stefani is winding down her rock royalty marriage to British musician Gavin Rossdale.
The platinum blond “Wind It Up” singer filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court Monday citing irreconcilable differences and asking for joint custody of the couple’s three sons, a court source confirmed.
Stefani, 45, said the date of their separation was still to be determined, but she asked the court to terminate Rossdale’s ability to get spousal support.
Rossdale, the 49-year-old lead singer and guitarist of the band Bush, filed his response at the same time in a seemingly coordinated move.
But he checked a different box on his paperwork indicating he wanted to reserve any decision on the issue of spousal support, the court source said.
The former golden couple met in 1995 while on tour together and married in London in 2002.
She was the lead singer of the seminal ska punk band No Doubt and went on to launch a successful solo career, design a fashion line and become a judge on the hit TV talent competition “The Voice.”
The shock divorce filing came after Stefani raved about her “handsome” husband in the March 2015 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.
"We go through so much together — it's a miracle that we could stay together this long," she told the magazine.
“He wrote me the sweetest note this morning. It's good to have those days when we both do our own things. I think that's what keeps relationships going, when both people can be themselves and have their own individuality. That's especially important for women. It's hard to find time for yourself,” she said.
The couple did not sign a prenup, according to TMZ.com.
In a joint statement, they vowed to work together to raise sons Kingston, 9, Zuma, 6, and Apollo, 1.
“While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment,” the statement said.
