Agreed.. and there are obvious players to target on this defense. Lenoir is the only DB that seems worth a damn in coverage. Campbell is awful at LB

If Sorensen ends up being a bust as a DC then I agree with @yseJ that it's time to move on from the Wide 9 as the base for our defense. Each season we are getting less and less pressure on the opposing QB, letting teams run the ball at will and secondary is hit or miss. Losing Greenlaw is a huge blow because every LB not named Fred Warner is below average at best

Supposedly the issue with Wilks was that he couldn't adapt to what was expected out of him with our defense. Sorensen is an in house guy that has coached pretty much every unit in the defense under Shanahan so if he does even worse than Wilks then what the fukk are going?

The problem as usual is its all converging on Kyles stubbornness imo.

Kyle saw the D be dominant in 2019 and to lesser degree in 21 and 22 and he wants it to be the same way.

Scheme wise this scheme was never great. It's a passive scheme predicated on talent. The scheme wasn't really good until 2019 when they got Dee Ford, moved Armstead inside and Bosa came dominating the tackles, and got Greenlaw and Kwon.

This just isn't the same front seven anymore. You can't be predictable rush four all the time with inferior talent and don't disguise coverages. We are a bottom five defense three weeks after facing three teams none of which have a great offense. We blitz at the lowest rare in the NFL. This D is trash if they don't get turnovers. This can get ugly against real powerhouses.


This is a pattern with Kyle. Instead of being innovative and ahead of the curve he's asking the D to be like it used to be five years ago with much worse personnel. This shyt ain't cutting it. I would even argue that Kyle spends too much time in the past on offense and a lot of time his innovations come when he's limited and has to come up with solutions. Ie Deebo in a wideback role.
