UPS delivery drivers set to make up to 170K in pay and benefits

"
UPS drivers will earn an average of $170,000 in pay and benefits at the end of a five-year contract their union negotiated with the carrier last month to avert a strike, UPS CEO Carol Tomé said during an earnings call this week.

The deal, which was reached on July 25, will increase full-time workers' compensation to $170,000 from roughly $145,000 over five years, according to UPS' calculations. It will also boost part-time workers' salaries to at least $25.75 per hour and end mandatory overtime, Tomé told investors on Tuesday.

I watched a video of a UPS worker talking about it and he said that shyt is super false in terms of what they’ll actually be taking home. He said the paper is definitely up, but it’s nothing close to that 170. Salute them tho, my brother been working for UPS for over 20 years now, it’s hard work, they deserve whatever extras they get. All them delivery type jobs need to get pay increases, I could never do that type of work, constant running around all day, I’m way too lazy lol

Indeed! It's almost impossible without passing costs on to the consumer at an unusable level. I still expect some downsizing via automation over the course of that contract.

I'm happy for them! But with the amount of overhead an operation like that has, that bread gotta come from somewhere. Either its the top or the bottom (line). One seems more likely than the other...

My homie works for them and has been keeping me updated through the entire process. That number is so misleading, but they did get an increase. Basically, that figure also includes employer costs of said benefits.

Their union is just ahead of the curve

Let me give you an example of how inflation works over time

There’s one lane and two cars traveling in the opposing directions. You got prices going up and wages going up. You got government printing money and more money out there competing for less goods

So unions begin renegotiating

This is like a baseball bat gets tossed out to the competitors. One catches the bat. The idea is to put your hand above the previois hand on the bat. Bam $170,000 for UPS delivery drivers. Next hand on the bat, teacher’s unions move from 100K a year to $200K. Next hand on the bat police go from 100-150k to 200-250k

Hey guys we raised “minimum wage”

Oh yeah … guess what buddy .. minimum wage will always be minimum wage regardless of the number

Very easy to manipulate an economically illiterate society

People don’t seem to realize if you let government control education than “education” will be governed

It is is easy to control an economically illiterate populace

Here’s the simplest way for me to break this down for you. Imagine living in a capitalist society with an “education” system to makes no priority of teaching students how to manage capital

 @ America and the world’s economic system at-large
