Donald Glover expands FX ties with new production deal

Fresh off a few wins at the Golden Globes, Donald Glover's excellent week just got even better.

The actor/producer has just scored a new deal with FX Productions under which he will develop new series for FX Networks, other networks and streaming services, on top of continuing his work on "Atlanta."

"Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another," said Nick Grad, FX's president of original programming. "'Atlanta' was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as its honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city. We're proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television."

FX made the announcement ahead of a day of show presentations at the Television Critics Association press tour, taking place in Pasadena.

The deal caps off what's been an exciting week for Glover and "Atlanta."

On Sunday, the show won a Golden Globe for best television series - comedy or musical and Glover was individually recognized with a statue for best actor in a comedy or musical.


The hardware joins a collection that already includes a Critics Choice Award and an AFI Award.

"Atlanta" was renewed for a second season in October, but the network said Thursday its return won't happen until 2018, due to Glover's schedule.

In addition to his work with the network, Glover was recently cast as young Lando in the Han Solo standalone film, set for release in 2018.

According to FX, "Atlanta" was "basic cable's most-watched new comedy in three years among adults ages 18-49" and "the highest-rated comedy in FX Networks' history," with 4.84 million total average viewers across platforms. –– (CNN)

Still basking in the glow of his 2 wins at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony for his hit new FX series “Atlanta,” Donald Glover has decided to extend his relationship with FX, and has inked an overall deal with FX Productions that will see the multi-hyphenate develop new projects for FX and other networks or streaming services.

And while he continue to write, produce, direct and star in “Atlanta,” which was previously renewd for a second season, fans will have to wait until 2018 for the series to return because Glover will be busy this year, starting with his playing Lando Calrissian in the upcoming “Star Wars” Han Solo standalone film, which begins shooting this month. But anything good is worth the wait, right?

FX – one of my favorite basic cable TV networks when it comes to original scripted series – clearly recognizes talent and is intent on locking down Glover for as long as they can. No word on what other projects he’s considering creating via this new deal with FX Productions, whether for the FX channel or other networks or streaming platforms. The specific terms of the deal were not released.

In other FX news, “American Horror Story” has been renewed through 2019 — meaning expect at least 2 more seasons of the series, pushing it to 9. Although no word on what actors will return, like Angela Bassett, or Cuba Gooding Jr., Andre Holland and Adina Porter who all starred in the most recent season. The network also set premiere dates for its new Ryan Murphy anthology series “Feud” (Sunday, 5th March, 10pm), as well as the return of “The Americans” and The Americans” (Tuesday, March 7th, 10pm) and “Archer” ( Wednesday, April 5th, 10pm).

:mjgrin: You know Donald Glover is doing good when despite the fact that he's a safe negro that white people like, he's getting co-signs from pro-black militants like Jason Black.

:salute: to this brother. I just hope he doesn't over extend himself and start putting out garbage because of the pressure & volume demands.

I'm sure it must be hard enough to focus on 1 series to attempt to maintain it's greatness, while also being an actor for hire & music artist.
