"The U.S. Department of Justice is pushing to make it easier for law enforcement to get warrants to hack into the computers of criminal suspects across the country. The move, which would alter federal court rules governing search warrants, comes amid increases in cases related to computer crimes. Investigators say they need more flexibility to get warrants to allow hacking in such cases, especially when multiple computers are involved or the government doesn't know where the suspect's computer is physically located."

This doesn't really concern me. I've worked with the DOJ. In my experience, most law enforcement were extraordinarily afraid of overstepping any legal boundaries because it can jeopardize a case. The only time things didn't seem to go by the book were during real-time events under chaotic circumstances and even then, there were legal constraints that prevented law enforcement from obtaining real-time info from tech companies that could have been extremely useful in providing leads.

Hackers can be very dangerous. Hell, during the Malaysia plane disappearance, they spoke of the 777s vulnerability to hacking and the possibility someone could take control of the plane. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

There are certainly nefarious characters in the government who will abuse this, but I don't see this as anything comparable to the NSA abuses. I guess it depends on the language necessary to obtain a warrant. I also have a little more confidence in the respect judges have for the law that aren't in the kangaroo FISA court.
