Does people saying "YOU CAN'T" motivate you to prove them wrong?

Was at a men's meeting last night at my church. One guy had a father who told him he couldn't make the football team. And he was motivated to prove him wrong and he made the team. Then his dad told told him he wasn't good enough to get a scholarship. And sure enough, he went to school on a football scholarship.

Are any of you like this? People's doubts motivate you to prove them wrong

When they say you can't

They mean you can. They just don't want you to. Because they're jealous of your pending success. They want you to stay beneath them. They are afraid you will leave them behind and leave them in your rear view.

When they say you can't

They mean please don't leave me. Please don't forget about me.
