Maybe its because of my upbringing, but I never say the n-word, and never have. I never made a conscious decision not to, but the word just never found its way into my vocabulary. Growing up I didn't have any black friends, so maybe thats another reason. But even with my cousins/family members the word just never really got used. Anybody else here just never really say the word at all?

I think the word really does need to die at this point. People say its about brotherhood, and something we internalized and turned around to be something positive. But nowadays you have black rappers hosting concerts filled with white people shouting the words at the top of their lungs. The word doesn't belong to the black community anymore, its now packaged into the corporate owned genre known as Rap. The CEOs of the record labels own the n-word now.

Never grew up using it, but I think that's because my family is from the islands and they never used it (at least until they came stateside)

I hate when white people try to police black people using the word and tell us not to use it ... I understand if a black person doesn't use the word for their own reasons, but it shouldn't be because it offends white people (I hope that was clear)

This thread comes up a lot but I'll continue to use the word. Understanding the etymology, I'll be damned if I stop using it because someone else is offended.

Out here in my damn drawls
Not as much as I used to, but that might be because I no longer hang around my friends where it would flow normally into a conversation.

These jive ass, punk ass, square ass black people that I work around probably might tell on me and try to get me fired or hit me with a lawsuit :scust:

It still comes out when I'm shooting the shyt on here sometimes tho

Edit: Being an adult ain't shyt. I miss my nikkas mane :mjcry:

I would, but I'm usually around polite company. I don't associate with many folks that respond to nikka.

i dont use it casually. i only say it for some specific reason. i never really bought that "term of endearment" excuse since most people get salty when non-blacks say it. i do pick up at least a small sense of self loathing when i hear others using it all the time and i personally wish black people would transition away from it.

that being said, i dont think it is very a serious issue. i think the controversy is often used as a deflection from bigger issues.

Almost never.

Its much more effective when you don't use it every other word.
