Do you think we have it easier or harder than the previous generation?

I had a much needed talk with my parents this morning and they said that they had it way easier than we do. Dad said "y'all got all these futuristic gadgets and trinkets and new age philosophies but we really had more freedom". "We were rich in money, time and culture". Both are in their early 50s.
