Do you think the lack of rap battles amongst established artists is good or bad......

lack of rap battles is one of the things that destroyed hiphop. in this day, everyone either gets a pass, too concerned with being PRETTY (or 'swagged out'), and have the mentality that they are wealthy, then a month later, no one gives a fukk about these mcdonalds ass rappers.

i would like to know why do people even rap nowadays? it used to be about skill, then it was money. clearly only a handful of people are making money, and those people are fukking pop artists. the fukk happened to hiphop?!

also, no disrespect to all you fakkits out there, but i think the acceptance of gay fashion also contributed to the demise of hiphop.

Beef is wack, Battling is dope.

The problem is that these rappers don't have no pride in their skills.

No one cares about being truly considered dope, or being the best.

They say "We just trying to get money" like you can't battle and get money.

But we know in the age of rappers doing "freestyles" while reading from their phone. These new nikkas ain't built for that.

There will be a time when battling will come back strong but these days when Rick Ross, Drake, Waka Flocka, Future are some of the time rappers it probably wouldn't be that great

Because it's so ingrained in their minds that they'll never be the best or considered to be the best no matter how hard they try, so there's no point in going in on these battles where the incentive isn't there.

and threadstarter: this ain't sports. that's what hip-hop fans forget sometimes. So when shyt like Fight Klub came about and 50 Cent baiting anyone he possibly could, it b*stardized that aspect of hip-hop to the point where it was gimmicky and you could never trust anyone's motives.

That's my main beef. That and the excuse fans give when rappers get dissed. People shouldn't diss Soulja Boy because he's young, shouldn't diss Drake because he's popular, shouldn't diss so-and-so because they're making money, blah, blah, blah.

Right,

I love how whenever a rapper calls someone out or pulls another rappers card they call it "hating".
:smugdraper:

right its not that im hating it's just the fact that you suck and am tired of you getting by of being mediocre and being labled as good.

Or "only doing it for buzz"

like when has that ever helped an otherwise irrelevant artist sell records. most of the times 50 called someone out it wasnt because he needed to, because people were checking for him anyway.

Because it's so ingrained in their minds that they'll never be the best or considered to be the best no matter how hard they try, so there's no point in going in on these battles where the incentive isn't there.

thats just lazy. you spend the whole song talking about how nice you are but when someone says otherwise you all of a sudden become to good to prove yourself.:rudy:

:childplease: people forget its just hip hop, its not more serious than sports. when someone is called out, it's because that artist thinks they are better or deserve that spot. Just because you have a hit, it dosent mean you should feel or expect people to let you get comfortable.

and I'm tired of rappers saying thats not beef of beef is played out:birdman: so if we called it something else like a "challenge" what you do it? these artist is lazy and un competitive, a lost a lil respect for drake when he avoided common of all people.:snoop:

Thats not battling though. That was attention whoring. 50 Cent is not lyrically a good MC. What Jay-z and Nas did, that was battling. What LL and Canibus did, that was battling.

50 wuz baitin nikkas and a lot of these bums with no career is baiting...as a rapper how can u not be happy the biggest rapper in the game is "baiting" u...joe budden took the challenge and got sum buzz off that just couldn't turn itinto anything....if u a big name rapper I can see not responding to every bum, well probaly never see nobody on it like pac ever again....but if he a bum he should be easier to humiliate:manny:

Just shows dudes don't care about bein the best no more....they all took the "let's money together" shyt too far...good business but bad for the game...hate to say it but I mighta liked it better when rappers wuz gettin jerked and didn't haveany idea how the business worked so early on....this nikkas come in the game now with they business hat on,worried about they "brand".

Yea its like battling is shunned in the rap universe.
They should rate nikkas and have it like weight categories, u dont got enough ratings then u can't hang
So that nikkas like Flocka can't battle nikkas like Cassidy lol like a flyweight vs heavyweight

Meek is one of the few young nikkas that CAN battle, he went in as a youngin.

competition breeds excellence.
No battles, no desire to improve their lyrical and beat making skills led to tha birth of a generation half-assed MCs and beatmakers.
If anybodies gonna boast about whatever, they should be able to back it or take tha ass kickin.

Rap beef did get corny tho'... I think when it turned into, every week there's a new dis, every month there's a mixtape with nothing but disses on it, shyt became hokey and a gimmick.

I agree that competition breeds excellence. But why not be competitive musically instead? That's the competitive nature that I think needs to return. When niqqas wanted to make the best album, or have the hardest song out, or have the best lyrics, or make the most hits... I think a lot of artists are so comfortable, they don't give a fukk about any of that. Long as they get paid, they good. Only a few seem to be truly concerned to the extent that they take it that seriously. That's why there's so many half-ass rappers out there, cause it doesn't matter if they're the best or the hottest or anything. That's what I think should come back, fukk a rap beef.

I saw in an article before, there were a lotta rap beefs that coulda happened among the greats in that 80s Golden Era, but they didn't because A) dudes felt they had too much to lose by losing, and B) they ran with people who woulda taken it past music. But what they DID do instead was try to make the best records and have the people decide. The focus was on making music that would blow the rest out the water... and look what happened. So fukk a battle, compete with the music again and shyt will be great again.

So rappers like Andre 3000, Scarface and Rakim would be better if they were beefing with people? lol.

Rap battles is a cool thing for young rappers, but corny when you reach a certain age. Cats like 2Pac were 23-24 years while they were beefing.
