I only follow track casually but I guess the impression that a lot of other track stars don’t like Carl Lewis.
He comes across as smug and unlikeable. A couple people in the 9.79 doc say that there was talk that he wouldn’t enter a meet if there was drug testing. He always bashes Ben Johnson and other users, but he would have been ineligible for the 88’ Olympics if the USOC didn’t cover his positive tests. He says it’s doesn't matter because it was only banned stimulants.
He’s one of the greatest ever though, and did give us this masterpiece
