Do yall use vpns on your phones for public wifi?

My gym has no service and I like to go on my phone when I rest.

My phone told me to get their vpn, but I researched and found out that the phone company and their vpn provider will know everything you do and that it's really not safe.

So if yall use vpns for your phone, what do you guys recommend that's best ?

Orbot, however that doesn't make you anonymous you can never be truly anonymous as your ISP can always see what you are doing.

Even using tor doesn't prevent that.
