I've started making my own breaks to alleviate beat block. The way I do it, is I turn my bpm down to 50-60 turn on the metronome and add some kicks snares and hats. Then I bump the bpm up to 90-100, and I usually get good grooves. Now with my mpc I can add effects like reverb and compress/eq the drums to give them a good sound after I do that, I go to sample and I can sample from my main out on the mpc 4000 --I sample myself-- once I have my sample made I play around with it and either use 16 levels of tuning to slow it down or speed it up or I chop it up to 8- 16 pieces and create a new program with those chops. From that point I can play around with those chops and create new grooves and honestly keep repeating the process.

Here's a vid, its pretty boring but it kind of shows the process

Beat block ugh, one of many enemies to the creative process lol.....I have a drum set and I've recorded some personal breaks and one hit shots and they sound amazing, I mean the grooves you get from playing literally cannot be replicated on a drum machine. But if you were to use the one shots I have and mix them into a break pattern you can barely tell if thats even a break or not, because theres so much air in the beginning and end of the one shot, it's just a clean ass snare, kick, etc., it's so natural. Here's a beat with the one shots.....

thats true, thats where the dopeness of the producer comes into handy like pete rock, some people dont believe that he uses snippets of instruments to create a sound as if someone were live playing the instrument in some of his beats.

I put a newer more clean video showing the process.
I record myself playing drums to cassette and then play that through an SP-404 for vinyl compression, or EQ.

My boy did that with a guitar and a harmonica for an ep, I swear it's probably the dopest thing I've ever heard
