I just thought about this the other day. Its not some ground breaking thought but I was just thinking about when things get unearthed or certain history in Africa its usually a Caucasian male or female doing the digging up and expositions which usually wind up being (whitewashed history). I feel like it would cut down on some of that and bring us our culture even closer to the forefront as blacks in America. I know there are some economic and social issues that causes us not to be in these professions but we still need it at the end of the day IMO

They need funding.
Bingo. We need more diverse funding and less 'protected sites'. The large majority of archeological finds end up being used to support existing theories. We're so concerned with having a holistic image of history, that we stopped caring whether the image is accurate or not. Too many archaic scientists clutching to their life's work and denying credit for theories and discoveries that oppose their world view.

I am assuming you are speaking about America, correct?

Sudan/New Zealand.
all over the world but yes more importantly america.

Since i am not American, i guess this does not apply to me. My parents(North Sudan/Egypt) country there are many local archaeologists, so this thread really does not apply to us, in regards of not having people trained in that discipline

We definitely do.
The thing about these fields is that they're becoming less and less lucrative as time goes on, a good chunk of the PhDs in Archaeology and History are children of adults who already have advanced degrees in the field, or other graduate degrees, the money, and/or the connections in place.
We need more Black everything, from doctors and programmers, to engineers, and historians. Not just American either, but we have access to the top universities in the fields here, and definitely need to utilise them more, short-term gain be damned.
