Let's say I'm an up and coming rapper and I want a verse from Lil Wayne

I paid his fee, sent him the track he does his verse and sends it back

I listen to his verse and I'm like  this is trash

Do I have to jus deal with it? Or can I request for him to do his verse over (which is not likely to happen) or get a refund?

I've always wondered how that works. Anybody know?

S/N No hate on Wayne, just used as an example :lolbron:

All of that would be in your contract, hopefully.

Im sure this shyt happens all the time with C level rappers but when you pay a Wayne/2 Chainz/Ross/Jeezy 30-70k to spit a verse you're most likely gonna have to keep it unless you can take that kinda hit to your wallet.

yea hopefully you got the paperwork right but most times you not paying these nikkas to really spit some crazy shyt its really to get the exposure

On a side-note: nikkas need to break down whether nikkas is making that like are nikkas really paying wayne to 70k to spit a verse same thing with those producers who make 50k+ per beat

Wayne has been getting paid above 50k for verses since 07, it might be double that now...nikka is a megastar.

Yeah I get what you sayin here, that might have been one of those favor verses. The whole YMCMB/MMG DJ Khaled regime probably swaps 16's like that all the time.

Certz Up ..... Hoezzzz down .....
on some real most nikkaz don pay for features specially on mixtapes specially if they mutual friends

Even B listers when the song blows up months later thats when maybe the featured artist calls back for bread lol

example:
meek mill didnt pay drake or big sean for mixtape appearances

2chainz didnt pay drumma boy until "spend it" got em a deal and etc or in demand on radio

lex luger and styles didnt get paid off bmf until the song blew up or def jam packaged it and album release etc.

ross does a lot of verses for free ive heard weezy is similiar. but if the song cracks or charts billboard thats when paperwork comes out.

a lot of these nikkaz don pay. specially for glorified mixtape features.

rap is money laundering under the table bread. even signed rappers stick to mixtapes just to get away wit robbin producers etc.

a lot of mixtape producer nikkaz don get paid shyt but they get shine on tracklist

i read a few months back rza and pharrell were mad at game for using their beats on mixtapes. those catz don even do mixtapes tho. thats why nikkaz workin with the same producers

if a producer is backed by a label polo the don, timbo, dre, pharrell, rza, for example don get credits on mixtapes.

albumz diff story! but most the game consist of mixtapes or internet for example.

My boy inherited a verse from Wayne for free...
It was originally for Jibbs 2nd album, but when dude got dropped (and could no longer afford Wayne), Wayne was like just keep the verse. Since the producer had the Pro Tool files, he gave him to his artist in hopes that the song would blow...

3 years later, the song never blew and dude is stuck with an autotune wayne verse...:manny:

At least he can say he has a song with Wayne...

I was under the impression that you only had to pay if the song got published. If it didn't, the guest rapper has the right to reserve the verse for himself or another feature.

Yep, ?uestlove straight up said Blu didn't fit the topic of the songs. But I think most people nowadays seem afraid to step on someone's toes and tell 'em to go back and redo a verse, or they can't have 'em on.

I'm sure it happens more than we thing. More likely to happen with newer artists who don't share the same label.
