"The Diplomat's Zachary Keck wonders why the U.S. government is doubling down on missile defense systems even as hypersonic missiles threaten to render them obsolete. Keck notes that hypersonic missiles pose two distinct challenges to current missile defense systems. First, they travel far faster than the missiles the defense systems are designed to intercept. Second, they travel at lower altitudes and possess greater maneuverability than the missiles the current systems have been built to destroy. Nonetheless, the U.S. was planning on spending $2 billion a year on missile defense through 2017, and now the Pentagon is asking for an additional $4.5 billion over the next five years."

They're gonna make their quota no matter what. Sell yo an obsolete product because they know you'll come back for the updated one for the new threat anyway. I cant blame them. Most technology companies (including mine)do the same :manny:

But seriously tho Hypersonic ballistic missiles arent a huge threat yet because none of your enemies can afford to invest in allocating an impactful amount of them at the moment

Two things I have to say on this.

One, the US Military is in bed with their friends, the defense contractors, to bilk the american people out of billions of dollars annually. This won't end anytime soon and other governments are doing the same thing. Defense contractors eat...well.

Two, whatever is cutting edge for us now has been known in DoD circles for at least 30 years and is already old hat. There are no missiles fast enough to avoid being shot out of orbit before delivering their payload. There are no ballistic missiles whose launch/control systems cannot be hacked or rerouted.

that last line reminds me of an article i read here about saudi arabia (u.s. shill in the middle east) giving the syrian rebels aka al queda weapons and losing some weapons.

also remember operation fast & furious.. eric holder giving the mexikins weapons on the low.

and a lot of other intelligence that ends up "on the wrong persons hands".
