Do for self doesn't mean and has never meant being successful in a vacuum with no help from anyone but yourself.
Typically in when used in lay economics, it means looking to be a entrepreneur not a customer. Getting funding or support doesn't negate this.
I would say typically when black economics talkers use it, they are talking about creating black controlled funding, broadcasting, and etc along side traditional white controlled avenues so that black americans won't be held to the whims of white people who control their money purses.
That said I think she is deliberately attacking a strawman, buts that only after listening to 30mins, getting tired and cutting off.
I will accept that I'm wrong if she made actual arguments later in the video.
