He didn't say he hated the beat though unless I'm missing something that's not in the clip in the OP. He said the beat was simple and repetitive and that he didn't want to do the song at first.

He has said plenty of times he hated the beat at first. He thought it sounded too much like a rock beat and not like a hip-hop beat.

This was honestly, literally, no exaggeration, the most mind blowing rap song I’d ever heard up to that point, at least to my young mind at the time lol. I replayed this at least 100 times straight that first day. I’m glad he did the record too, lyrics was ehh but that beat and hook and feel was undeniable. All Swizz big records are simple, lol…what isn’t simple from Swizz?

That’s probably why X said “somethin new” in the beginning…just in case nigs thought this shhit was ass, he was letting us know they’re experimenting, lol

Always thought that song was shytty compared to Get At Me Dog.That was the X track that reeled me in.After that, it was Stop Being Greedy.By the time I was finished with Niccaz Done Started Something, I knew X was one of them ones...But yeah, I could throw Ruff Ryders into the sea of forgetfulness & not feel a thing about it.

I understand him 100% as far as the song being its own thing and lyrics being elementary as hell.

beat is garbage. X turned a simple beat into a classic. The same with "ether". That beat was average at best and no one cares about it. They were only focused on what Nas was saying.

The beat was definitely garbage. I mean come on. It was a Swiss beat.

I've been telling dudes on here for years that X hated that beat, lol.

They were making him do songs he didn't want to do. It helped him, but personally, he wasn't f*cking with a lot of the sh*t Swizz was doing.

I agree. it's the hook that grabbed everyone.

I like the beat and the lyrics but the record does sound remedial and unlike anything on the rest of the album, him asking for something with more substance was funny.

I wonder what was his reaction to "Money, Cash, Hoes".
