"On a recent episode of the Broken Record podcast, DJ Premier shared the story of the creation of "Kick In THe Door", from The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1997 album, Life After Death. "'Put A Spell On You' by Screamin' Jay Hawkins was a popular record in Texas where i'm from," Preemo shared. "I never planned on making it into Hip-Hop record."
Premier explained that after dropping off a cassette to Diddy, the mogul shared his concerns about the now classic song. "Puff asked If I could work on a new beat B.I.G. because he didn't like what I gave him. He said 'I need something that's gonna rock in The Tunnel', and I told him that beat would definitely rock in the tunnel."
Premier explained further that Diddy agreed to pass the beat off to Biggie, but that he still wanted a replacement. "B.I.G. called me to work on the beat, and I told him that Puff didn't like it, and he said: 'Man fukk that, I'm gonna kill this record!' What was so dope was that after Puff heard it with the lyrics he loved it."
