Disney Confirms A New Star Wars Movie Every Summer Starting in 2015

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Star Wars: Episode VII will hit theaters in the summer of 2015 and that every summer after that will offer a "Star Wars" film, alternating with one of the standalone films.

We knew they were targeting "Episode VII" for 2015, but a summer date had not yet been confirmed. Also, while it was known they were working on standalone films, the fact that we'll be getting a "Star Wars" movie every summer is a new development. We don't know how many standalone films they are planning on making at this time in addition to the new trilogy.

J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII from a script by Michael Arndt.

I think they're doing that with the actual Star Wars movies. Seeing as Disney owns Marvel too it looks like they're taking the same route making stand alone films then ushering the actual Star Wars films.

They're apparently following the line of the Comic series where Han and Leia have kids, Luke rebuilds Jedi Temple, etc. If they use that set of stories, it could be kinda nuts.

• Star Wars Episode VII will be set 30 years after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

• It will indeed feature the Skywalker/Solo children coming to the peak of their powers

• The Jedi Order has been rebuilt with Luke Skywalker as Grand Master

• A disciple of Emperor Palpatine aims to rebuild the Sith Armies of the Old Republic and destroy the Jedi where the Skywalker children will be thrust into battle and face their inner demons of their Skywalker lineage.
