Film Thrasher: CINEMACON: Walt Disney Pictures Announces A New 'Star Wars' Every Summer Starting in 2015

With anticipation high, Star Wars: Episode VII is fast approaching with just two years to go until the new sequel trilogy kicks off on the big screen. Since then, there have been plenty of rumors but perhaps the biggest confirmation is of an additional extension of the franchise in big screen spin-offs.

Now, Disney has unveiled a bit more of their massive plans for the series as they've revealed the features are going to arrive like clockwork after its next on-screen debut.

At their CinemaCon presentation today, Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed that beginning in Summer 2015 with Star Wars: Episode VII, there will be one Star Wars entry every Summer for an unforeseen future. The schedule will currently alternate between the sequel trilogy and standalone spin-off films once every year, at least for the time being setting a 5 or 6 year plan in place.

The standalone spin-offs were confirmed earlier this year, while no creative talent or subject material has yet been revealed. Reports state that spin-offs centering on Boba Fett, a young Han Solo and Yoda are in the works, but for the time being these are strictly rumors.

Michael Arndt has penned the script for Star Wars: Episode VII, while J.J. Abrams will direct. No production start is yet set, though slated to possibly begin by late this year. The original trio are expected to appear, while an official casting confirmation has not yet been made.

It seems as if they are going to make movies about the entire universe. If they are doing that then there isnt any problem. Marvel is releasing 2-3 movies a year, in the same universe, and nobody is saying its being run into the ground.

i don't see this as running it into the ground. they're exploring and expanding it. considering the fact that the main movies will be every other year and other side stories will be between them it'll be fine.

i dont get it, this is the best news for those people that want no skywalker storys in the next set of films, yet you all complain

me personally, thats fine....if thats how they want to do it, some will be good, some will be bad (which is sadly already the case)....they already said they want to make this like the bond movies as far as franchises go, theres 23 of them, if they dropped one bond a year, would anyone really complain?
