Don't get me wrong, Don Draper might be my favorite character of all time. You're 100% right about why men would find him to be appealing. The womanizing, the drinking, the fashion sense, all that. But dude is fukked up. Everybody in this show is. Betty is a spoiled brat simply put. She's never had to work for a thing in her life. She wants to think there's more to her than that but she's not willing to put in the effort. As far as how Don is with the kids...I'll let you catch up with the show
But the real point I was trying to make before is that you shouldn't go into this show looking for someone to root for. It's really not that type of narrative. One scene I'll see my boy Don bossing up and be like

). Literally every episode has a standalone theme completely separate to what the season's overarching plot is.
