The airline industry is a brutal business. One that features many failures by start ups and everyone expects this trend to continue. However, one black woman is unphased by the skepticism and failure rate of the industry.

Siza Mzimela of South Africa became the first black woman to start and launch an airline company Fall of this year. September 1st, 2015 was the date of their first flight of Fly Blue Crane airlines.

“Fly Blue Crane has anticipated and is positioned to deliver on what customers want: the enhanced convenience of frequent flights through high on-time performance‚ commitment to consistent service excellence‚ advanced online technologies that will make the booking and travel process fuss-free‚ and of course highly competitive fares‚” said Fly Blue Crane CEO Siza Mzimela.

Mzimela has an extensive business background, but more specifically in the aviation industry. She was Chief Executive Officer of SAA, South Africa Airways, and SA, South Africa Express.

It is her experience with these airlines and the industry that has given her the courage to start her own airlines company at a time when others are very fearful of doing so. She believes she has accumulated enough business acumen and best practices from the industry to not only be successful, but to thrive as a company and culture.

Fly Blue Crane, South Africa’s latest new low-cost airline with their hub based at ‘OR Tambo’ has come to the rescue with an essential alternative for air travel to several leisure and business destinations across southern Africa. Initiating a fresh new attitude in air travel, customers can look forward to personal service at its best from the time they book their ticket to disembarking the aircraft.

Fly Blue Crane will launch their inaugural flights from ‘OR Tambo’ to Nelspruit, Bloemfontein and Kimberley on 1st September in two 50-seater ‘Embraer 145LR’ jet aircraft. Equipped with the latest technology, quiet cabins and modern interiors these aircraft provide the best in comfort and safety ensuring a pleasurable flight.

Routes
Operating all routes from ‘OR Tambo’ Fly Blue Crane will service Bloemfontein Airport six times daily from Johannesburg and five times from Bloemfontein. Kimberley Airport will welcome Fly Blue Crane six times a day while Nelspruit will have two daily flights.

No one knows what the future holds for Fly Blue Crane, but we do understand the work, effort and energy Mzimela put into starting her own airlines. We would like to salute her in this effort and wish her nothing but the best of luck moving forward into the future!

The world Craig, the world.

Excellence. Pure excellence. So many people, but black/African women in particular are going out and becoming entrepreneurs and it's refreshing. They aren't waiting for work, they're creating it.
