The illusion of choice.
Free Market capitalism always leads to monopolies and crony corporatism. This is the main reason I'm against Free Market capitalism.
Good luck boycotting any of those companies.

Typical fool: "Hurr durr durr, that makes you a CoMmUnIsT!"

My reply: "Nope. I'm also against State controlled command economy socialism (Communism) as well."

So why you napping on the OP but not the media companies?

It's fax
The moment he used "free market" i knew he was either joking or has no clue what he's talking about.
Moreover, who cares?

Nothing is being said here, either you show how consumers are being harmed or you are just whining about something you believe is somehow bad.

Free markets never stay free under free market capitalism for a simple reason.
It always produces monopolies because it is the very nature of competition. There will be a winner (or a few) and most will either be acquired or they will die out. With monopoly comes political power and this leads to crony capitalism. Then the monopoly can now dictate prices and influence both legislation and government regulation (basically the illusion of choice). The idea that companies will compete in perpetuity and benefit consumers as a result is flawed. Competition will not last, someone will win.

"Buh buh buh gubberment made monopolies."
Bullshyt. Monopolies are created because it's the very nature of competition of free markets. If free market capitalists believe in voluntary transactions then monopolies are bound to happen.

Why should you care?
Simple. If you believe in choice and competition then you should be against free market capitalism. When ~90% of the grocery and toiletries are are produced by 11 companies that isn't much of a choice. That's barely competition. This harms the consumer.
When these monopolies get so large and powerful that they can influence government regulation and legislation then this not only hurts the consumer but hurt the country as a whole.

The solution.
The monopolies needs to be broken apart just as they were in the late 19th century CE - early 20th century CE.

Peaceful monopolies are fine, and extremely difficult(and impossible to maintain) if you are in fact, for whatever reason, referring to a free market.

Question: Do monopolies cease being evil when they are held by state entities?...:leostare: and if so why?:leostare:
Bonus Question: Can you give an example of a modern day monopoly not backed by the state?
