Did you have a gold/metal detector as a kid? (Random thread)

So I was walking around an island today and I saw this Arab with a metal detector on the beach. He was so excited when it went off. I was like People still do this? I mean it makes sense I guess (people drop stuff all the time at the beach).

Did you have one as a kid? Did you ever find anything valauble? And please no ducktales saying you found a treasure chest full of gold :

Never as a kid, but when I lived in St Thomas I picked one up and would scour Magens Bay super early in the morning.

Only use it while I’m surf fishing now

Lots of fun - would recommend

Also, I’ve always thought of metal detectors as more adult pursuit than something for children.

Mostly have seen men using them.
