Did the "Black Church" you went to growing up focus on education/health/finance?

Why is "Black Church" in quotes? 
I went to a decent sized church with a lot of educated and successful people so yes. One breh was always tryna get us to pursue engineering. Shared the story once but a VP at JC Penney was a member and invites the grads to his house every year I think. At least he did for us, etc.
Now as a JIT on the otherhand I was in a small town church with less than 100 people. Most churches don't have the bandwith

I stopped going in middle school, but I really can't remember.
I do know my pastor was cheating on his wife and driving a Porsche and Escalade. His daughter was also getting smutted out.

Nope. Actually wouldn't have a problem with churches (as much as I do) if they did tbh.
Mine focused on religion
not at all. shyt, if anything church floated between two main pillars
making it a point to rationalize where you are in life
and seeing how your neighbor is doing

The people who impressed upon me that money mattered a great deal were all of the women
in my family.
Several of which rejected their church upbringing in their teens and twenties
or in their older age (my grandmother was notorious for being more relaxed in old age vs. her younger self).
My mom's handing me entrepreneurial magazines and pushing college >>>>>> like 75% of what I learned in Bible study.

why you say "black church" like most aren't focused on financing the church?

Education was encouraged.... but mostly was taught about sacrifice and looking out for your neighbors/community

I didn't become saved until I was an adult. So I don't remember much. But I do remember my grandfather started a scholarship fund. They had concert every year where different youth choir perform. Then they collect money for the scholarship.
