Woody Strode. So I'm watching classic movies with my moms and we watched this John Wayne movie
Anyway, there was a Black actor in the movie. This is 1962 so I was for sure he was going to be talking like a slave, kooning But he didn't. Apparently bro was a former football player. And got nominated for a Golden Globe for Spartacus. I wanna watch his other movies to see if he acted like a stereotype. But maybe him being an athlete he was viewed as some sort of hero. I don't know.

The character was named after Woody Strode, the legendary Spartacus actor who starred in numerous Westerns throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Strode was a prolific performer, starring in his first film in 1941, and working steadily until his death in 1994. His final film was, fittingly, a Western: Sam Raimi’s The Quick and the Dead, co-starring Sharon Stone, Russell Crowe, and Leonardo DiCaprio, and released in 1995.
