I feel like the Kliq peeped game and took their blueprint. Austin was such a wrestling genius he one-upped them when he became Stone Cold, which no one could even try to duplicate. Pillman was on a GOAT-level arc before injuries, accidents and drugs fukked him and ultimately cost him his life.
