My wife is almost 2 months pregnant with our second child. Last week we went for our first doctor visit. They gave her Diclegis for nausea, which is hitting her hard. I was skeptical when the doctor prescribed it, but I let her rock. The drug works awesome. We did some research today and come to find out it was linked to birth defects about 40 years ago, and was taken off the market after a flurry of lawsuits. Last year the FDA approved it again. Supposedly the recent science behind says it's safe, but we all know that the ''science'' of today, isn't exactly for the people.

She's taken the drug about 4 times now, we agreed she'll stop until we could do more research. I just want to know if anyone has had any family members that might have experienced anything with this drug that might suggest whether it's good or bad?

You can't tell a pregnant women what to do, especially a nauseous one, but nausea isn't life or death. I'd try to convince her to forgo the medicine and put up with the misery for 7 months. Better than a lifetime of some birth defect for your child.

Even if anyone here has experience with the drug, everybody responds differently. I'm sure statistically, the drug is fine for most people, but personally, I wouldn't take that chance.

is that the drug that had a bunch of kids being born with missing limbs and shyt?
why are they still using this?

just looked it up...the drug i'm thinking of is thalidomide.

'Wonder drug' left babies with deformed limbs | Society | The Guardian

The best-known example of birth defects being caused by hazardous substances in the UK remains the babies born in the late 1950s and early 1960s with deformities caused by their mothers taking the drugthalidomide.

It was hailed as a "wonder drug" to treat conditions such as insomnia, morning sickness and depression and licensed in the UK in 1958. But it was withdrawn again in late 1961 after an Australian doctor told the Lancet he had identified an increase in the number of deformed babies born in his hospital, and found that all of the mothers involved had used the drug.

By then around 10,000 babies had been born worldwide who either had shortened arms or legs, or no limbs at all. A few of these "thalidomidechildren" won damages in 1968 and the rest were covered by a 1973 out-of-court settlement with Distillers, who made the drug. That compensation was later increased, though, after media attention and pressure from some of the firm's shareholders. Distillers and subsequently Guinness, which bought it, have had to improve the terms of the settlement several times and have paid or agreed to pay around £200m in total up until 2037 to the Thalidomide Trust, which distributes annual payments to the 455 people in Britain damaged by the drug.

Thank God my wife was on the natural shyt during the entire pregnancy. Not even pain meds during birth. Just like @LeyeT said chamomile or peppermint tea for the nausea.

one thing I would suggest is starting a facebook support/follow up group
that way info can't be faked or suppressed
it looks like this got approved just recently so I doubt you will find too many reporters but it would be good to get it started
