A young Taiwanese man from Tainan, Taiwan collapsed and died around noon, July 13th. The report indicates that the chap, around 18 years old, played Diablo III to the point of exhausting his heart after gaming for 40 hours straight.

According to The Australian, the gamer, identified only by last name, Chuang, rented out a private room in an internet cafe and went nearly two whole days without eating.

On July 15th an internet cafe attendee came into the room and found Chuang resting on the desk. After the attendee gave the resting gamer a slight shake, Chuang awoke and then stood up and then took a few steps and then collapsed to the floor. After being rushed to the hospital he later died.

According to The Australian...
They speculated that long hours in a sedentary position created cardiovascular problems for Chuang, the report said.
Another Taiwanese fellow also kicked the bucket after buying the farm while engaged in an intense match of League of Legends. The circumstances were very similar, except the deceased, Chen Rong-Yu, suffered cardiac arrest.

Apparently gamers are getting way too involved in these games and need to relax. Unless Blizzard's servers get hit with a stray nuclear missile, Diablo III will still be here today, tomorrow, several days after that and (presumably) a couple of more days after that, so there's no need to go all-in as if you have to play incessantly.

Hopefully the parents of the deceased are able to cope with the situation, but at least his death wasn't in result of foul play.

:whoo:
Damn....

40 hours? really? I expected a lot longer.

this is going to happen when people can make money off a game.

Why these places don't have time limits is ridiculous. :mindblown: It's seems like they have one of these stories every month. Like the poster above me said, once these people can make real cash off these games, nikkas are gonna drop like flys :dead:

Whats so good about this game?
its not good. There is no end game. Its just farm and farm and farm and farm. Thing is, you can make real life money from selling in game items on the auction house.

Now, If they put in PVP that may be fun.

those places don't need time limits, this is natural selection. How you really gonna play a game for 40 hours straight all the while guzzling down energy drinks and expect to be okay?

I agree with that, but the problem is the media will eat this shyt up. They take any negative press and blow the shyt out of proportion :snoop:

This is the 2nd person to die, that I know of, from playing Diablo 3

Man Dies After Playing Diablo III for 72 Hours

A 32-year old man called Russell Shirley, was found dead by his landlord after a three-day marathon of Diablo III.

According to the report, Shirley suffered a heart attack while playing Blizzard's addictive loot-fest. Apparently, Shirley lead a pretty relaxed lifestyle, and was hard pressed to use his gym membership or get some exercise.

However, two of Shirley's friends have debunked the story, saying he died due his long term suffering with apnea. They describe Shirley as a normal 32-year old man who was "charitable" and a "peerless friend", but who had trouble managing his weight due to his health problems.

Regardless of which part of the story is true, it is important to realize that taking a break every hour or so between long sessions of gaming is extremely vital.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Shirley and his family.

I remember playing COD back in the day for maybe 8 hours or something, but 72 hours, even 40 hours, damn, these dudes puttin' in work
