It's rare to find white people that have slave owning descendants actually talking about it. Most of the time it's denial. Interesting look into some of the northern states' role in the slave trade. I never believed that the south was 100% responsible. This confirms it.
she talked about this.

She said she had to come to terms with the fact that her white guilt was clouding her judgment.

America wasn't "The Cotton Economy" for no reason. Even those who didn't have slaves benefitted from the countries growth through enslaved labor.

Yep. Slaves were LITERALLY commodities.

Thats why Lincoln freed the slaves. It was moreover an economic move...not necessarily a moral one.

This guy actually talks about that. Everyone from people who collected molasses to make rum, to people who crafted the iron for shackles to people who were apart of various aspects of the process.

It was HUGE business.

Behind South Carolina, the largest slave importing state was RHODE ISLAND. :wow:

I hate the moral rhetoric BS they spewed in school. The Emancipation Proclamation's purpose was to destabilize the south's economy so they couldn't setup a new country within the US and to get blacks to fight for the Union. As soon as the south heard about the Proclamation, there was a collective :heh: look from the entire Confederacy. It didn't mean anything until the south was actually beaten and even then it had little importance because of........

:wow: this post.. It pieces together the beginnings of the formation of the Dixie-crats.
