Seeing @OH SOHH TRILL's thread has got me thinking about this. To the best of your ability, try to accurately describe any past or present wrestler's characterization, motives, traits, goals, etc. as if they were a character in a show, movie, book, etc.

In particular, try to do some of the modern guys. I want to experiment with this and see if there's any real validity to the claim that they have no distinct or notable character to speak of.:jbhmm:
I'll start:

Bret Hart: Stoic, resolute, obsessed with the prestige of pro-wrestling. A man of proud lineage, to whom wrestling was both a science and an art, to be upheld by greatness and integrity.

Committed to the point of conflict, remaining true to his values as all around him crumbled under the the destructive influence of anarchic degenerates.

Consequently – a national hero on Canadian home soil, and vilified enemy in the lions den of America in equal measure. A champion of tradition and honor to some, a target of rebellious, anarchic contempt from others.

A natural leader of men, be it leader more broadly of the New Generation or more specifically the Hart Foundation.

Carry on.

Heres the problem everyone has. Everyone thinks were stuck in the 80's and every character should define the story. No. In most cases the story should shape the character and eventually branch off into more characters to supply depth to where the story goes. But if you're writing terrible stories that aren't looked at in a long term basis, you'll have bland purposeless characters.
