Directing doesn't have shyt to do with race. Some of this shyt ya'll on now is baffling. It's like saying a Black man couldn't direct a movie about WW2 or some shyt.
:jbhmm: what about directing a coming of age story about a black boy becoming a black man

whatever you say :dame:

he bout to get shine off of whoever he was consulting for this one

You are aware Directors don't actually WRITE the screenplay in most cases. If the writer was White then maybe I"d see where you are coming from, and even then.....I'd just be happy the story was well written, which seems to be the case. I mean if you wanna be outraged for the fukk of it by all means....

Cacs have the tendency to not know what it means to be a black person in America and it usually shows emotionally behind pieces of art (look at Dana Shutz painting of Till). In these type of movies, there's absolutely no sense of catharsis, which usually leaves the viewer scratching their heads and feeling as if something is lacking. Its a movie FOR white people, period. there's nothing in that trailer we haven't seen before with our own two eyes - the violence isn’t shocking. It’s just sadly familiar but with the white audience (who this is geared to) they'll digest it as in your face expose and inspire outrage and disbelief but nothing will come from it in the end

And any brother with a film camera is gonna make a film better than this because of the color of his skin? Nah, I'm not buying that shyt. Ya'll bugging. I don't know if this is a good film or not but a good storyteller is a good storyteller, I don't have to be a jew to understand that a concentration camp is horrible shyt. I don't have to be Michael Jordan to write about the intricacies of Basketball. IF that's your stance tho, more power too you.

This movie is directed, co-written, produced, shot, and edited by white creatives who do not understand the weight of the images they hone in on cuz they feel it's taboo.

:picard: Oh my God, they actually showed how too cook crack??

In that preview, I bet you money the director wanted the viewer to "feel those punches" when slim got jumped in, he wanted to make those sharp thumps of fist thrown by a group of grown men against a black boys face, in hopes that you'd feel the impact. But, all that does is leave out the meaning of the emotional scars left behind or how they echo through his family and neighborhood.

It's just another example of Hollywood using us as a hollow spectacle, to show rank racism and countless deaths that have nothing to say about race, the justice system, or the other little brehs who are in that same position.
