Netflix Picks Up 'Marvel's Daredevil' For Second Season With New Showrunners

This is good news, but bad news. Steven Deknight (Spartacus creator) isn't coming back for season 2 as showrunner.

I think it might be because of STARZ. Deknight is under and overall deal with STARZ. He was allowed to do Daredevil, but I think STARZ has the power to recall him to work on a project for their network. He also had INCURSION (a Halo type project) in development at STARZ along with a mob show that takes place in Philadelphia in the 1970's.

I'm sure STARZ saw how Daredevil was blowing up and was like, whoa, we need to get DeKnight back here to help our network.

Unfortunately I won't be returning to #Daredevil due to a previous commitment in the feature world. More to come on that in the future.

It also seems it possibly could be a combination of his feature commitment and Incursion possibly moving forward at STARZ.

That's interesting. I wonder if behind the scenes Marvel let DeKnight know when he's free he can have PUNISHER as a TV series. I could see that happening.

Not necessarily. According to the Marvel press release, the schedule actually got pushed up:

"Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones" comes only to Netflix later this year and "Marvel's Luke Cage" premieres on the streaming service in 2016. Future series exclusively debuting on Netflix include “Marvel’s Iron Fist” and “Marvel’s Defenders,” a mini-series event that reimagines a team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

The earlier comments from Netflix had Jessica Jones for 2016.

With Daredevil's success, looks like they've now locked AKAJJ to release late this year, Luke Cage will probably be in production before year's end to drop early 2016 and Iron Fist & Daredevil might both be in production around the same time in order to have them both out before Defenders. Hell, depending on the success of each individual season, Marvel might have set themselves up w/ Netflix renewing them all & all 4 being in production within the same calendar year to be released in binge fashion each a couple months apart.

Elodie Yung Cast As Elektra For Daredevil Season 2

Marvel and Netflix have cast Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios for Daredevil Season Two.

Yung’s prior credits include G.I. Joe: Retaliation and District 13: Ultimatum. Marvel described Yung’s Elektra as a “mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”

Elektra is one of Marvel Comics’ premiere characters, debuting during Frank Miller’s acclaimed run on Daredevil. While she and Daredevil shared a romance, the two are now close allies. The last actress to play Elektra was Jennifer Garner in Daredevil and Elektra.
