Danny Trejo has joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” on his El Rey Network, the cabler announced Wednesday.
Trejo appeared in the film franchise, as Razor Charlie, but won’t be reprising his original role — he’s set to play The Regulator, a horrifying evil agent who has been summoned to perform a deadly errand.
The project marks a reunion between Trejo and Rodriguez who worked together on the original, plus features “Machete” and “Machete Kills.”
Briana Evigan (“Step Up 2″) has also joined the cast for Season 2. She’ll play Sonja, an American expatriate working as a tattoo artist in a Mexican mercado, who has a sideline gig forging papers and passports out of her back room.
Returning cast members include D.J. Cotrona, Zane Holtz, Jesse Garcia, Eiza González, Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo and Wilmer Valderrama, who just landed the starring role on Fox’s “Minority Report” pilot.
Season 2 kicks off with the characters in their own separate worlds — Santanico (González) and Richie (Holtz) are living like Bonnie and Clyde outside of Houston; Seth (Cotrona) and Kate (Davenport) are scraping by South of the Border; Freddie (Garcia) is protecting his wife and daughter in a Houston suburb; and Carlos (Valderrama) and Scott (Soo-Hoo) emerge from the Titty Twister, as changed men. They will all come together once again to face off against an even bigger threat.
The 10-episode second season is currently in production in Austin, Texas.
“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” is produced by Miramax and Rodriguez International Pictures, FactoryMade Ventures and Sugarcane Entertainment. Rodriguez exec producers with showrunner Carlos Coto, writer Diego Gutierrez, John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa. The series is inspired by Rodriguez’s original 1996 film, in which George Clooney and Harvey Keitel starred.
