WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (30-0, 17KOs) is still open to the idea of remaining at 140-pounds to defend his world titles. Garcia was in action last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. He fought IBF champion Lamont Peterson in 143-pound catch-weight bout and won a close twelve round majority decision.
This was the second fight in a row for Garcia at a contract weight above the junior welterweight limit. Garcia admits that he drains himself to make the weight limit, and he'll be a lot stronger at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds - but if everyone wants him to remain at junior welterweight to defend the belt - then that's what he'll do.
Garcia's mandatory, under the WBC at least, is undefeated Eastern European contender Viktor Postol.
"I feel like I'll be a lot stronger at 147. I won't have to drain myself. I'm big for 140. But you know we're the champion at 140 and if that's what everybody wants - then I'm defending my title next," Garcia told BoxingScene.com
