I see nothing inherently wrong with this the caveat is that children must be thought about guns in a safe , responsible manner, it should not be view as a toy rather as a lethal deadly weapon that can be used for self protection, if each children in middle and high school were taught basic gun safety lessons it would help especially the case of accidental gun fires
