We popularized New Balance and Foamposites people from Baltimore and New York wear them too. When I was in NC and people saw me wearing new balance they asked if I was from D.C not Harlem or Baltimore

Emo, and punk music started in D.C by a politician's son

We was the first northern city to wear dreads. Dreads were a deep-south/carribean thing we was wearing them

Tupac and Biggie got Versace from us

Cheif Keef's favorite rapper outside Gucci Mane is Fat Trel who influenced the way he dressed and rap

Kanye got his style from us and influenced a generation

This thread highlights how a lot of early rap was influenced by gogo

Uncle Luke explains how gogo music influenced bounce music shout out to @IllmaticDelta

"W]hen I was a rough kid my mom sent me to stay in DC, I stayed in Oxon Hill with my brother... Man, Rare Essence, Chuck Brown, that was my thing. I used to go to a lot of the go-go shows at The Armory and when they used to have it at the Cap Center I’d be there. That’s really where I got a lot of call and response from. I was a DJ and I did call and response, but I never [knew] how to apply it on a record. So when I did spend my time up there, I would go to these shows and I would see Chuck Brown up there and Rare Essence and I would see the battles. Because back then, they would be battling and shyt, they would be getting down, it’d be like battle of the bands. So I heard that and I kind of applied a lot of that into me as an artist. Keeping the party started, coming up with different call and responses. I learned a lot from go-go music."

I’m not here to necessary argue with you. Cuz I get where you coming from but to call DC “northern” is a stretch, but somehow it’s also not southern. :patrice:

actually perplexing tbh

But all that being said, that DC/PG culture is definitely unique and underrated.

Imo

DC stuff is great it just never caught on everywhere else.

school me on Detroit’s influence cuz I feel like everyone from there is proud as fukk of their city but I’m not getting the influence outside of the region. Unless we talking Motown

Bruh in no shape or form is calling DC "northern" a fukking stretch. Get the fukk outta here you dumb cac. nikkas in DC act JUST like nikkas from Philly, Baltimore, NYC etc. The slang is damn near the same. We said "bid" like nikkas in philly do. We say "I ain't gon hold you" just like every other Northeast city dikkhead.

And our culture isn't that unique say like LA. We borrowed from a lot of other cities cultures like the rest of America

so you gon tell a nikka born in philly who grew up in pg that the two cities talk the same? It’s 2020, of course a lot of lingo around the country is shared but cmon breh.

Ask anybody from philly and up if they think DC act just like them. Guarantee you gon hear no.

And I’m not hatin cuz like I said I grew up there so I was supporting your argument.DC is unique and influential.

go-go is unique. The local clothing brands that we came up on is unique, the lingo is/was unique.

You diluting it by tryna claim DC sound like Philly/Jersey/NY cuz it don’t and that’s part of what makes it unique. FOH

ima go head and ignore that cac shyt...
