Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
I've been explained this by multiple recently arrived Cubans here in Miami...the latest time was last night.

Young lady slightly regrets coming to America because life was the same and easier in Cuba. (she's a manicurist)

They come to America expecting one thing and quickly realize this shyt ain't cake.

In Cuba, admittedly, some people don't eat until they're satisfied, but everything else good, I'm told. And anyone that wants a job, can get one, make a living, and shop at the regular grocery stores instead of relying on the Government ration.

Cuba has:

Extremely subsidized housing for all renters. No property tax for those that are homeowners
Free electricity.
Free food.
Free education.
Free healthcare
Extremely subsidized and cheap transportation.

This was re-iterated to me last night but it's a constant narrative I hear from newly arrived Cubans.

Apparently the goal is typically to come here to make more money and go back and buy a house. This person's cousin just bought a home in Cuba for $3000. It's all decked out and fixed for like an additional $5000, and the cousin moved back.

I went to Cuba a few years back. It's a beautiful place but the people cannt speak up about the condition out loud. There was a couple took us to a market to show us their supermarket which was bare bones. Women are only allowed to buy as certain amount of feminine products a month. Also Cubans are not free to travel to other parts of the country if you not from there. Our tour guide told us we have to tell the checkpoint people that he was a family member to get us the other parts of Cuba. We never got stopped so it worked out. Not sure I'll go back but it was ok .

America really needs to lay off of Cuba already, and normalize good Relations with the country. As bad as Obama was, that was the direction he wanted to take things, but unfortunately trump shoved that one down the shytter with extreme prejudice.

My only concern would be opening up Cuba to the global market, and economic reforms that would necessarily go with it. I fear such changes would undue the foundations of their social structure as capital invariably seeks to privatize and monetize any avenues it can. If I’m correct they already went through a number of economic reforms in recent years.

I'd like to go there, maybe even in the next few months, but maneuvering the currency situation is very problematic. I recently found out they have a digital currency which is cool but converting from dollars isnt really a thing. It would probably make most sense to fly to DR convert to DR pesos then convert those pesos to the Cuban currency but even then it's not so easy

"...As bad as Obama was..." excuse me?
At the end of the day he was an establishment centrist. I am on the far left so it’s a foregone conclusion I’d feel that way. I think socially he did some good things, and on the subject of diplomacy, I believe he was going the correct direction by renewing relations with Cuba and Iran.

That's literally the story of 95% of immigrants who come here. No one likes this shyt hole.
And they come here, become citizens and vote red down the ballot, to make it 'just like home'

The fukk you come here for if you want it to be like home? :mjtf:

The lack of liberty man

Even if its "not so bad" there, by whatever metric, when you are scraping by and dont even have the freedom to speak your mind anywhere..maybe not even in private cuz that shyt could be bugged..its gotta just be like you know what fukk this
