I've been explained this by multiple recently arrived Cubans here in Miami...the latest time was last night.
Young lady slightly regrets coming to America because life was the same and easier in Cuba. (she's a manicurist)
They come to America expecting one thing and quickly realize this shyt ain't cake.
In Cuba, admittedly, some people don't eat until they're satisfied, but everything else good, I'm told. And anyone that wants a job, can get one, make a living, and shop at the regular grocery stores instead of relying on the Government ration.
Cuba has:
Extremely subsidized housing for all renters. No property tax for those that are homeowners
Free electricity.
Free food.
Free education.
Free healthcare
Extremely subsidized and cheap transportation.
This was re-iterated to me last night but it's a constant narrative I hear from newly arrived Cubans.
Apparently the goal is typically to come here to make more money and go back and buy a house. This person's cousin just bought a home in Cuba for $3000. It's all decked out and fixed for like an additional $5000, and the cousin moved back.
