Man charged for alleged ax attack on girlfriend
ONTARIO, Or. -- An Ontario man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he struck his girlfriend with an ax and an aluminum bat.
Police say they were called to the 800 block of N. Oregon Street at around 9 p.m. Friday.
A spokesperson with the Ontario Police Department tells KTVB it appears 43-year-old Ian Inger was drinking before getting into an argument with his girlfriend 42-year-old Nora Horn at her residence.
Police say the argument escalated and Inger went to retrieve an ax and a bat. Inger reportedly struck Horn in the head with the ax, fracturing her skull and jaw. Police say most of Horn's injuries were from the ax, with Inger allegedly striking Horn in the stomach, back of the neck and shoulders. He reportedly hit her with the bat once. A spokesperson with the department calls Horn's injuries "horrific."
Police say Inger also attacked Horn's 24-year-old daughter, Leann Beason. Beason was treated at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Ontario and released.
Horn was taken to the same hospital, but was then transferred to St. Al's in Boise overnight. She is expected to undergo surgery due to the extent of her injuries.
Meanwhile, police say Inger has an extensive history with the Ontario Police Department. They say they've had over 90 contacts with him in the past, but nothing to this extent.
Inger is behind bars at the Malheur County Jail. He is charged with attempted murder, assault 1 and assault 3, all felony charges. He is also charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
He is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
