Exactly.
Another thing is that Biden doesn't necessarily win reelection in 2012. Part of Obama's power was his ability to turn out black voters, Biden doesn't have that same ability.
Not just that, Obama was also seen as inexperienced so even if he was captivating no one would GIVE him that spot unless he took it.

Should have stipulated that I was assuming Obama ran in 08 but just didn't happen to win. He had been on the radar since 2004.
Probably wouldn't have happened, big part of Obama getting elected was the social media in 2008 and 2012
and this was when it was a relatively new technology, and most voters who were engaged online were young progressives.
