No, this isn't about me. I recently became cool with this reeeaaal old dude, homeless, he's got some wild stories and never asks me for anything but some company. Last night I finally convinced him to go to a shelter, but the problem is he's addicted to crack. Now, I'm sitting in with a caseworker and him tomorrow to decide what to do next, but what are they really gonna do besides toss him from shelter to shelter? Does anyone know of any crack addiction equivalents to like ibogaine? Can that be used in crack addiction?

yeah i'm captain-save-a-crackhead, I'll take that title

not sure how to help you. i have a relative (or two) with a terrible meth addiction. shyt changes people into monsters for real.

but i think it's good that you're looking out for someone in need of help. good luck.

Good shyt, the upsides are it makes me feel good knowing i'm doing good for someone else for no reason other than to do it, and also he has gems for days. He told me he's half-irish, and half italian, puerto-rican and black (he's clearly an old black dude).

This is a good thing what you're doing my dude. :wow:
I don't know about that personnally, but from what I know, to cure and addict you got to replace his addiction by something healthy. The homeless get to find something to be busy of, to keep his mind from thinking about his current addiction.
But the first question you gotta ask before is : does he want to be cured ? Is he ready to help hisself ?

Yeah, that's the issue really. He loves crack, says it's good for the heart (hah). The thing is though he's super religious and always says what he's doing is wrong, and come judgement day he'll get his, so I know he does at some deep level. Basically I been trying to keep him clean by just hanging with him: park, walk around the city, smoke cigarettes, basic shyt. I told him about the internet last night and he was wildin', dude was born in 1945 (he claims).

Props on doing what your doing.

Sadly when someone is that deep in the game it's damn near impossible to get them out. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try. I'd suggest first you have to give him reasons to stop, otherwise he's not going to care. Maybe get him back in touch with his family, or show him a way out. Then you look into one of those treatment centers, I'm not sure if they still have free ones but you can find that out. After that it's up to him.

It sucks when someone gets their minds taken over by drugs but unfortunately we cannot save everyone. Do what you can for the man but understand that when someone has spent that long on a drug and is that old, it's really hard to change that. If you help him thats awesome but don't hold it against yourself if things don't go the way you want.

I've seen crack addiction up close and personal and I can promise you unless he's the one asking for help with it, you're completely wasting your time. Guaranteed.

Well vic, you were right. I had been working with this guy for a while, finally convinced him to get into a shelter that specializes in treating people with addiction. I show up this morning and he was gone. Don't know how far he coulda got in that wheelchair with no money but it wasn't in the city of Providence. You're wrong that I wasted my time though, he had no family or friends and he had one in me for a few weeks.

I know it sounds like im fishing for the humanitarian award but whatever...fukk it, I had fun, lost no money, and got a few stories to tell about how no amount of knowledge can stop you from being a fiend for crack.

Nothing is equivalent to Ibogaine. It has success rates in upwards of 80%

get his ass down to mexico where they have treatment centers because this is America, and Ibogaine is illegal.

its hard to give up any addiction, whether its porn, gambling, crack etc., all you can do is hope he changes somehow.

its hard feeling like garbage and the only thing to take it a away for a while is what your tryna give up

Why don't you just grow some balls and let the dude waste away in his misery. People who feel sorry for the weak are weak themselves.

Don't make friends with people like that.

Crack heads and people like them don't learn. They are bound to their addiction. You're wasting your time. Don't try to help. Simply observe and let him be a lesson to your children.

its admirable what u do, ive dealt wid this in my personal life. i have alotta drug addicted friends.

iono about pharmaceutical methods, but in my experience, theres nothing u can do. sad to say, but only they can change themselves. they'll either get cleaned up or or OD and die.

good luck wid it. ur an admirable person.
